A car allegedly driven by a Canadian model with Bollywood actor Salman Khan in it met with an accident injuring a police constable in Central Mumbai's Worli area, police said on Monday.
"Going by the photographs (printed in a city tabloid on Monday) it seems Salman was in the vehicle which met with an accident but my men at Worli have said he was not driving the vehicle as being speculated," Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) K L Prasad said.
According to the report, a car with Salman in it hit a motorcycle on which a police constable was riding pillion and injured the latter.
A crowd gathered at the spot soon after and one among them also clicked photographs of Salman at the spot with his mobile phone.
Salman's lawyer Dipesh Mehta has said neither Salman nor his vehicle was involved in any accident. The report further quotes him saying, "Well, he must be travelling on the same road when he stepped in to help."
A senior police official said, "The people caught hold of the woman offender and we requested Salman to leave the spot immediately as the crowd was swelling as the news spread that Salman was at the spot. We wanted to concentrate on the accident and not waste our energy in crowd management."
He said the woman had an international driving license and the owner of the vehicle was her employer. He, however, did not give further details as to what the woman does.
Salman is an accused in a hit and run case wherein his SUV ran over pavement dwellers in suburban Bandra killing one and injuring four others in the wee hours of September 28, 2002.
